How can I learn Spanish fast?
London asked:
I feel bad that I’m part Dominican and know virtually no spanish, so I’ve decided to try and learn it. After I moved to Spanish Harlem, NY I felt like I really needed to learn it (since everyone speaks it there) and so I was wondering how I could go about this? I was thinking about moving to the Dominican Republic for a year or two, do you think that would help. Last time I was there I didn’t learn any but you never know.

I am currently taking a Conversational Spanish course at the local community college and the teacher said that Rocket Spanish is an excellent program for learning the language. If the raise is that huge, it would be worth the investment.
If I were you, I wouldn’t hire the Colombian right away unless she is a teacher. Think about it – if you had to teach someone to speak English, would you know where to start or how to go about it? It’s difficult without a plan. For example, I have taken Spanish classes before but they were not conversational, like the one I’m taking now. I’m finally learning how to put together sentences and learning the most useful vocabulary words to know. It’s very different because of the focus.
Another tip the teacher gave which seemed to help several classmates: watch the soap operas on the Spanish channels. You can get used to hearing the words spoken and turn on the subtitles to see the words.

When you find a–fast– way please tell me.I have been at it for 45 years and I wish I was better. There is no fast way to learn any language.Sure you can learn a lot of words and many sentences in a short time. They may even understand you but you most likely will not understand them.

Definitely do a lot of searching on the internet and stuff to find out what learning methods work for you and are also fun! Some method where you are highly motivated to practice everyday! I personally like using audio lessons and then once I learn some cool phrases I just jump into conversation with people and try to use fun new phrases and slang.

The fastest way I know to learn Spanish is to start with Interlingua. It worked really well for me. First, you can learn Interlingua in a short time. Castellina discovered that people learned Interlingua in about one week, making it almost certainly the easiest language to learn. My own experience bears this out, because I learned Interlingua in less than a week and was practically fluent in a couple of weeks.
After you learn Interlingua, you can learn many other languages quickly. This has been documented most thoroughly with languages like Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and French – any Romance language – which you can learn about twice as fast as usual. When I learned Interlingua, my Spanish seemed to pour into my head! It works with other languages as well.
So you save a lot of time and effort in the long run. Basically, it’s your second language that’s so hard to learn. You’re whisking through your second language and moving right on to your third. Interlingua also helps you to understand your own language better – why words mean what they do, and so on.
