Has anyone heard of or gone to any schools in South America to learn spanish?
asked:
I’m planning on traveling to South America later this year. I would like to spend the first month learning spanish at some sort of school or program. I am flexible as to what country I travel to, but what I would like is a school or program that is reasonably priced (around $1000 for the month) and that provides accommodation.

I am a US ex’pat living in Costa Rica who came down here to learn spanish five years ago. Have you considered studying spanish in latin america, such as in Guatemala, Costa Rica or Panama and then continuing your trip down to south america? The three aforementioned countries have some of the least expensive language schools–especially Guatemala in antigua–you could also visit famous ruins while in teh country to get a good cultural experience…. Costa Rica also has quite a bit of wildlife (4% of the world´s biodiversity all packed into one country the size of west virginia!) to discover as well.
Or you might find an intensive four week course at a community college in the US might be helpful to you BEFORE going south to get some rudimentary grammar and vocabulary into you so you can better take advantage of your immersion experience as I did….

Hello.
Colombia, becoming increasingly more appealing to foreigners, have various Spanish schools.
I would recommend you to learn in Bogota. Colloquially speaking, Bogota has much more of a ‘neutral accent’ as opposed to Cartagena or even Medellin. Furthermore, the fact that Bogota is a truly an international arena, might appeal to you.
The courses are given my professionals, not your usual ‘Spanish speaking acquaintance’. The course is part of a Universidad de la Sebana enterprise. The Universidad is one of the top universities in Bogota.
¡Buena suerte, y bienvenido a Colombia!
