If I wanted to learn Spanish, would it be better to get a private tutor or buy some type of program?
Miss A asked:
I really want to become fluent in Spanish and I won’t be able to take the courses in college because I have to focus on the neccessary courses for my major.

I know it depends on where you live, etc. But about how much would a private spanish tutor charge? Or should I buy an online program like Rosetta Stone?
Serious answers only please. Thanks!
I live in Chattanooga, TN.

If you can afford it, I would advise getting a personal tutor, but i have no idea how much one would cost sorry.

If you want to go on the cheap, I would check out a program(book with audio tapes) from a local library. Spanish is relatively easy to learn on your own. Or take a trip to Florida, Texas, or California and learn directly from the natives.

I would say that you should get a private tutor, because I’ve had Rosetta Stone for Mandarin Chinese and it didn’t work AT ALL. SEROUSLY, I learned more words from FORTUNE COOKIES than Rosetta Stone!!! If you got a private tutor than it would be a LOT easier because she/he would be able to see what you needed to work on instead of just saying one word and than repeating it, and saying another word and repeating it.

Listen to what buddybooka says. I think it’s very smart and down to earth. A private tutor will not only teach, explain and help you practice, but he will evaluate your progress and advise you on what to do next. You’ll be face to face with a Spanish speaker who will interact with you and help you develop your speaking skills.
If you told us whereabouts you live maybe someone could tell you how to get a good teacher in your area and if they’ve had lessons with them.
On top of having private tuition you could check out some websites and do some work on your own to speed up the process.
When you’ve mastered the basics you can do some student exchange:
