Which language should I learn next? French or Spanish?

Well, this is my last year of Latin in high school, and I have been considering learning another language. Preferably a spoken language, in contrast with Latin, and preferably one of the Romantic languages. I have narrowed down my choices to either Spanish or French. This is my dilemma: I live in Texas, and therefore learning Spanish would be logically beneficial; however, French is very related to most English words.

Learn Spanish Verbs
I would suggest Spanish first for two reasons:
1-Spanish is simply more useful if you want to travel. It’s found in many more countries than French.
2-Spanish is a simpler language to learn. Once you master basic grammar and vocabulary, it is very easy to keep going from there on. French is more complicated quite frankly, and much more difficult to read, write and comprehend.
Best Way To Learn Spanish
You’ve said it. If you want to learn something more, let’s say useful, go with Spanish. If you don’t like following the main stream, French is a good choice and it is also Latin, which may help you if you also decide learning Spanish later on.
Now for a thought: If you are in Texas and do not speak Spanish and do you survive? By Mimic?

Take the Spanish, for every reason you mentioned. You can take French after you finish the Spanish. Being bilingual in a language that is widely used will help you in the work force.

Spanish would help you out more in the long run, as far as getting paid more for a job, but French is a much prettier language. Why not both? Do one now, and the other one later. The more languages you know, the better!

Latin is great for the roots of words.
Spanish starts slightly difficult, and gets easier. French starts easy, and gets progressively more difficult.
As someone who took both Spanish and French in school, I’d recommend Spanish, for ease of learning, and the consistency of the language itself. Of course, Spanish is more useful nowadays, no matter where in the US you are.

Spanish, definetely. it opens up so many more job oppurtunities, especially in your area. spanish is one of the top five languages. you obviously speak english, and unless you’re gonna tackle Mandarin Chinese, you should go for spanish. french is remarkably absent in that list. it is a dying language.
if you change your mind away from a romance language, try russian. its very fun to learn. i’m learning it now in high school.
