I am Venezuelan, and i speak fluent spanish. I recently took in high school 2 years of portuguese with a great teacher..i learned a lot and I can have conversations with brazilians and portuguese. At first, my ability to speak and write in spanish made it VERY easy to get accostumed to Portuguese and helped me through the years. It is very similar in spanish, it’s just that the pronounciation is different. I also love how portuguese sounds and when I graduate I’m planning to take more years of portuguese and maybe work as translator or writer. So yes, Brazilian portuguese and spanish are very similar, it will make it a piece of cake learning it with a good teacher and knowledge of spanish. Hope I helped!!

  • Learn To Speak Spanish Online

I’m Spanish native speaker and I would say yes.
I’ve never learnt or studied Portuguese but I might say that I able to undestand almost everything, as well as the Portuguese native speakers can understand us.

They are quite similar to each other. With a small amount of study you can become fluent in both languages very easily. I have a great link for you:

The largest differences are in preposition usage. Also, Spanish has far more Arabic loan words, and also went through some quite odd phonological changes. Who would guess that “parlar” and “hablar” are from the same Latin root?

  • Easy Way To Learn Spanish

Hi! Spanish isn’t my native language. I just learned it (without any teachers by the way ^_^) and practised it some years. When I saw Portuguese language for the first time I found it very similar with Spanish. And of course I understood something.
Then I decided to learn Portuguese. I just read manual as an ordinar book and learn it. The grammar is almost the same, the conjugation of verbs is very like. Many words are almost the same as in Spanish! But they are pronounced a bit different.
If you know Spanish it’ll be very easy to learn Portuguese.

So, the Brazilian variant of Portuguese is even easier to learn. It’s more similar with Spanish, especialy with Latin Spanish!

    Some common phrases as examples:

    Hola – Olá
    Adios – Adeus
¿Cómo te llamas? – Como te chamas?
    No entiendo – Não entendo
    Bienvenido – Bem-vindo
    Cómo estás? -Como está?

    Hasta luego! – Até logo!
    Por favor – Por favor
    Buen día – Bom dia
    Buenas tardes – Boa tarde
    Buenas noche – Boa noite
    Disculpa – Disculpe
Él está aquí (acá) – Ele está aqui (cá)
    ¿Qué es esto? – Que é isto?
    ¿Dónde está? – Onde está?

    Some verbs:
    dar – dar (to give)
    decir – dizer (to tell)
    leer – ler (to read)

Yes, if you learned Spanish fluently, then you could easily pick up Brazilian Portuguese, along with other latin languages, such as French, German, and Italian. [SM]

  • The easiest way to start learning Spanish should take a Spanish textbook and start drilling in you vocabulary. This option is not usually the best choice. Without hearing the spoken language, can not develop a natural accent, or learn to engage in natural conversation.
