Yes you can! Once you become fluent in one of them.. the other will be much easier, because they are very similar.
However, I do recommend you to first start with just one, and then after 6 months or so, start with the other.

Spanish would be the better language to learn. Itallian is very similar to spanish, and fluent spanish speakers who have visited Italy have said they were fine with just spanish.

First of all, Italian’s not a waste of time… =) Second, if you want to learn both, I think you should choose one, first, and then another, because they’re very similar and you could get confused… Italian is a bit harder, so maybe is better to start with it. After Italian Spanish will be very simple, and you can trust me because I’m Italian and I’m learning Spanish too. bye

it would be really hard to learn two languages at the same time, personally it’s hard enough learning one. =P

but you might be able to do it because you’ll find Italian and Spanish are very similar. I would say learn Spanish first, then pick up on Italian because many words are pretty much the same. =]

They are very close to each other, I live in Spain and it was very easy for me to learn Italian. But your case is different, I guess you should learn one of them first, and once you know it, learn the other one. Otherwise you will mix both.
