you arent forced to do anything. I’m pretty sure if you go to your counselor/scheduler that you can change to a different language.
But the majority of schools require that you take a second language. its just a way to broden your horizon and learn another language. the more you evolve the smarter you are.
i wouldn’t see how you would be offended by learning another language. the funny thing is when you understand strangers speaking spanish and they have no idea that you understand them. i know plenty of people who know many languages.
and i am proud to be AMERICAN and be fluent in spanish, know some french, and even some italian.

I agree. I initiated my language learning last year, my freshman year of high school. Only French and Spanish were offered – and everyone takes Spanish. I went into the program thinking that I was going to have four years of a language, which would in turn put me in good favor towards the college that I wish to attend. However, at the end of last year all of the French students were informed that French was being cut from the curriculum to save budget. However, we would have it for at least 11th grade (next year). Our teacher quit, and we were given an entirely incompetent one who cannot teach – we have learned absolutely nothing. It is sad for people like me who actually want to learn French and not conform to Spanish.

Schools, like mine now, are virtually saying that if you do not take Spanish, then you are not going to college. Language is essential and required for college use, and a broad spectrum of languages should be available to the avid and curious student. Only one choice is not enough….and cutting a language after you are already in it is certainly not fair to those enrolled.

America needs to ***** down on its schooling system. The next president shall make sure of this.

Learning a foreign language is an academic requirement, period. That’s the law. Besides knowing another language might open your eyes for new things. The fact that this is an English-speaking nation is totally irrelevant.

The Europeans force my ancestors to stop speaking their Native Language Lakota. And to only speak English. You are given a gift to be able to speak in Italian and English. And now your given another language to learn, be thank full, that you are given an opportunity to expand your horizons

Spanish, is a good language to learn, for many reasons…you may get a job to where you has to speck it, another reason is
when a Mexican talk about you, in Spanish, you’ll know what that person said, take it… it can’t hurt, but it can help, in a long run….i bet you’ll never see a Mexican person, talking about they doesn’t what to learn how to speck English…..

I’m sorry I have to disagree with you when you say people who came from Hispanic countries can’t learn English.
1- There are millions of Spanish speaking people who also speak English.
2- There are millions of immigrants who do NOT come from Spanish speaking countries.
3- How long is it going to take you to learn to speak a foreign language, considering you’re a student and the only thing you have to do is study? You don’t have to work and support a family.
4- Have you ever thought how a person feels after having worked for 12 long hours or even more? Do you think that person can still attend classes? How is that person going to focus being tired as a dog?
5- I’m going to stop here but I still have many other things to say. I guess I’ll wait for now.

What can I tell you? Appreciate the opportunity you have to get an education. Hopefully you won’t have to emigrate to earn enough to support your family. But you never know what the future has for you. Be ready for it.

Learning another language has always been part of school curriculum. You’ll find that in any country; it’s good practice to know more than one language not only for cultural reasons but also for future opportunities. People who know more than one language always get farther ahead in life.
If you’re only being given the choice of learning Spanish, it’s possible that you live in an area where Spanish is predominant so it would be of benefit to you to learn it.
I agree that people should learn English for it would be to their benefit too. It’s only fair they would at least try, out of respect for the country (that has always used English as their common language) that has taken them in.

Because English-speaking people SHARE this world with others. We are not alone or better than anyone else. Learning another language enhances your education and skills and keeps you from being a mono-lingual, close-minded ___. Oh, never mind – it’s probably too late anyhow. How sad.

Maybe studying a foreign language will make it just a wee bit less easy for paranoid, ****** politicians to manipulate you with ignorant propaganda?
